Safe Food Production Through Practicing Global GAP

Introduction

AR Malik Seeds has been implementing the co-funding project titled Building an Inclusive & Sustainable Supply Chain for Responsibly Produced, High-Quality Vegetables (ISCHV) in partnership with KfW DEG Impulse Germany from 2023 to 2026.

The project aims to enable farmers in Bangladesh to sustainably increase the profitability of vegetable cultivation through responsible production practices, reduced post-harvest losses, improved food safety, and better market prices through shorter and more efficient supply chains.

Promoting Safe and Sustainable Vegetable Production

A Transformational Initiative for Farmers

The implementation of the ISCHV project has brought a remarkable transformation in safe and sustainable vegetable production systems. Through this initiative, 5,000 farmers received training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), while 1,000 farmers successfully achieved GlobalGAP certification.

This achievement represents a major milestone in strengthening:

The mobilization of 150 farmer groups across 1,800 hectares of cultivation land has significantly strengthened collective action among producers.

This organized approach has contributed to:

• Increased bargaining power and market linkage opportunities

The collective farming structure has also supported farmers in meeting the quality and volume requirements of premium buyers and modern supply chains.
